Girl Meets Ghost: The Harder the Fall
This is the 2nd book in the Girl Meets Ghost series by Lauren Barnholdt. I think this is a good book with much thought. The girl in this book, Kendall, can see ghosts and she helps them move on because they have to fix a problem from their previous life. This time, the ghost is named Lyra, who doesn't even know what her problem is! Kendall has to "connect the dots" by going to Lyra's former mother's salon. Her best friend and others get suspicious, though, because Kendall hasn't told them she can't see ghosts, and she keeps visiting the salon when it is not even that good. The mess turns even greater, though, when she agrees to go bowling with Lyra's former best friend and Lyra's former brother. Will Kendall be able to solve the mystery and help Lyra move on before her friends turn against her, all while keeping them in the dark?
The book, I find, is not actually scary. I recommend reading the first book first, though. Kendall does not make good choices in the story, so she is not a really good role model for tweens. The author does do a good job making Lyra sound like a typical 7th grader, like Kendall. So I found this one more interesting than the first one.
Lauren Barnholdt does a good job with the characters' personalities. Kendall is not carefree, but confused and worried at most times. Her best friend, Ellie, is a kind and sensitive friend. Lyra is a determined and cool girl, except when her best friend is distressed. But that's in the book for you to find out about.
Overall, this book wrenched a 4 star rating out of me. It has great characters with greater personalities, a twist after Lyra moves on, and a cliff hanger ending. The cliff hanger did leave me hanging, but it is continued in the third book: Girl Meets Ghost: A Ghost of a Chance. Guess who's placing the book on hold...
Well, I hope you'll check the book out. I'll review soon!
