Sew Zoey: A Tangled Thread
by Chloe Taylor
When 12 year old Zoey opens up her collaboration Etsy pop-up shop with Allie Lovallo, one of her high school friends, things could not be better. At least until she gets swarmed with work. In a few days, Zoey's friend Priti is leaving for India, and she would like Zoey to make a sari. Kate, Zoey's other best friend, would also like Zoey to make a dress for her to wear to the soccer championship state finals' victory dinner. But with Etsy orders to fill, a sari and dress to make, a unit social studies test to study for, and a broken sewing machine, will Zoey be able to handle it all?
This book was actually really good. It was not just about Zoey trying to get it all done, but also about how she figured stuff out and had fun along the way. Her friends and family are very supportive, and Zoey is very talented. The only complaint is that the book seems too unrealistic. Sewing your own clothes when you are twelve, and designing a sari without any practice, is not easy and is very time consuming, and yet Zoey does it all. (How?) The story was not that bad though, and I also how Zoey is a positive person and doesn't mope around when she has problems. Plus, Zoey is a great friend, like when her machine breaks down and Priti's sari needs to be sewed, Zoey tries to hand sew it. I really also like the Sew Zoey "blog posts" that Chloe Taylor included, where Zoey posts often about her days and includes sketches of her designs. Chloe is also very detailed in her descriptions of the designs, which I like. Most of all, I like that Zoey manages to accomplish things and still make room for fun, because that is the most important thing of all. I give this book 4.5 stars, and the image of the cover from amazon is below. Happy reading!
