My Summer of Pink & Green by Lisa Greenwald

My Summer Of Pink And Green
 By: Lisa Greenwald
Lucy Desberg saved her family pharmacy by adding a brand new addition: an eco-friendly spa! But with all credit set aside, no one lets her do any of the main things leading up to opening day! It drives Lucy nuts, but that's not the only problem she has. Her best friend is neglecting her, so her only company is the investor's annoying daughter, Bevin. With nothing to do, Lucy has an idea. Will a life makeover be Lucy's new project? On the incredibly irritating Bevin?
I really like Lucy's character at most times. She doesn't give up on any challenges, and always tries to do the right thing, no matter how hard. When Lucy knows the coordinator sees her as 'just a kid', Lucy sets out to prove her wrong (and does, with many challenges). She reacts like any teen would to many situations, wanting to be heard, and tries to fix her mistakes. However, she does overreact to some situations, like taking her best friend for granted a few times, and has a habit of complaining. But her character is generally well built, I would say.
The plot of the story was really, really, good. There are many problems, but also little things that happen to fix those problems. One huge problem is Lucy's new "friend", Bevin, who yells things out at the absolute worst moments, calls her the wrong name, doesn't dress right, and really just embarrasses her. Though Bevin seems so uncoordinated, she does have her heart in the right place, but that doesn't matter as much to Lucy. She sets out to make Bevin a better person, starting with a trip to the mall. Makeover, anyone?
But Lucy soon realizes that maybe looks aren't always so important, just like with the new coordinator, Anais. Anais, to Lucy, is really pretty and has the best job ever, working at spas all around the world! Unfortunately, Lucy is just a kid in her mind, and Anais doesn't let her participate in the things she wants to participate in. I think this actually makes a lot of sense; I mean, Lucy is only 13 or so. Starting a business is hard, and even though Lucy founded the idea, she can't expect to be in charge. She needs to realize this, and she slowly does along the course of the story. But I really like the fact that she isn't totally worthless, as the author lets her attend a very important conference meeting that impacts the whole spa positively. But you're going to have to read the book to see what happens!
When Lucy's best friend ignores her, readers can totally understand how she feels! Her friend just tells her about places she is going with other friends and doesn't invite her! However, Lucy doesn't actually confront her on how she's feeling, which is really surprising as she usually confronts people when uncomfortable! Anyways, Lucy reacts a little rudely too, not answering her BFF's texts and other messages. I'm glad the author didn't put one of the girls as an antagonist and the other as a protagonist, because they both are really fun and sweet (I know that may sound a bit corny...), and both are part of the mishap.
Overall, I'd give this story 4 stars. It is definitely worth reading, so check it out soon! The image of it below is from Amazon. Oh, and by the way, this is actually the 2nd book in the series, so be sure to catch the first one, My Life in Pink & Green
Look out for more reviews, coming soon!
