Arts and Crafts Week 3

Hey everyone! Did any of you guys make the lanyard pen? If you did, I hope your hands didn't hurt like mine did when I made mine! Anyways, this week's craft is to create a board game! All you need is cardboard or poster board, construction paper, printer paper, dice, a glue stick, and markers! I actually did this for a school project and my friend recently reminded me of that, and I thought it would be a fun craft to post about. Here are the steps to making your custom board game:

  1. Decide the theme of your board game. I suggest choosing something specific, but not too specific, if you get what I mean. You could do a candy wonderland, a world of books, a garden of seasons, a map of the world, or other themes! Also choose between rolling dice or choosing cards to move across the spaces.
  2.  Sketch your game board on the cardboard/poster board. Just make sure you draw the spaces correctly; not too many, and spread out correctly.
  3. Complete your board. Glue a sheet of paper over the large cardboard instead of painting it. You want to cut out the construction paper and glue it as spaces. Use markers to write captions and other things to make parts of the board really stand out. You can also print out little pictures to glue on.
  4. Make your characters. This is really fun. For a candy theme, for example, you could make gingerbread men, peppermint sticks, and lollipops. I have found the best way to do this is to take a piece of paper and draw your character, leaving a bit of space at the bottom of the paper, maybe two inches or so. Then glue a piece of cardboard to the back, just not to the small piece at the bottom. Then simply glue the little piece sticking out against another piece of board, securing it as a stand.
  5. Make your cards if you are not using dice. Just ask fun and easy questions. You could write the number of spaces to move up with at the bottom, or you could say to move up one space if you get the question right, or two spaces back if you get the question wrong. It is up to you!
Set everything together and you're done! Have fun with your new game! Don't forget to come back next week for another craft.
